Who is the Babylon whose destruction is prophesied in the OT?
Jeremiah 50-51
8 Remove out of the midst of Babylon, and go forth out of the land of the Chaldeans, and be as the he goats before the flocks. (and other verses)
America has the highest population of Jews of any nation outside of Israel.
9 For, lo, I will raise and cause to come up against Babylon an assembly of great nations from the north country: and they shall set themselves in array against her; from thence she shall be taken: their arrows shall be as of a mighty expert man; none shall return in vain. (and other verses)
America’s main rivals are northern countries: Russia, China, N. Korea
11 Because ye were glad, because ye rejoiced, O ye destroyers of mine heritage, because ye are grown fat as the heifer at grass, and bellow as bulls;
Americans are prosperous, lazy, loudmouthed, and increasingly antisemitic.
12 Your mother shall be sore confounded; she that bare you shall be ashamed: behold, the hindermost of the nations shall be a wilderness, a dry land, and a desert.
America has a mother (England) and is the youngest (hindermost) of the great nations of the earth.
13 Because of the wrath of the Lord it shall not be inhabited, but it shall be wholly desolate: every one that goeth by Babylon shall be astonished, and hiss at all her plagues. (and other verses)
The destruction of America would cause people everywhere to gasp and be stunned.
15 Shout against her round about: she hath given her hand: her foundations are fallen, her walls are thrown down: for it is the vengeance of the Lord: take vengeance upon her; as she hath done, do unto her.
America has been giving away her power and superiority though leftist policies.
23 How is the hammer of the whole earth cut asunder and broken! how is Babylon become a desolation among the nations!
America has been the military hammer of the earth for at least a century. And now we have a famed recent military exploit named “Midnight Hammer.”
16 Cut off the sower from Babylon, and him that handleth the sickle in the time of harvest: for fear of the oppressing sword they shall turn every one to his people, and they shall flee every one to his own land.
27 Slay all her bullocks; let them go down to the slaughter: woe unto them! for their day is come, the time of their visitation.
America is a great agricultural center
37 A sword is upon their horses, and upon their chariots, and upon all the mingled people that are in the midst of her; and they shall become as women: a sword is upon her treasures; and they shall be robbed.
America is a land of mingled peoples.
38 A drought is upon her waters; and they shall be dried up: for it is the land of graven images, and they are mad upon their idols.
Americans are addicted to their devices and many have become mentally unstable as a result of influences found online.
46 At the noise of the taking of Babylon the earth is moved, and the cry is heard among the nations.
Are there any entities besides America whose destruction would affect the whole earth to that level?
7 Babylon hath been a golden cup in the Lord’s hand, that made all the earth drunken: the nations have drunken of her wine; therefore the nations are mad.
Digital technology? Future mark of the beast? American technology affects the rest of the world.
13 O thou that dwellest upon many waters, abundant in treasures, thine end is come, and the measure of thy covetousness.
America is surrounded by large oceans, she is full of natural resources, and is fraught with consumerism.
14 The Lord of hosts hath sworn by himself, saying, Surely I will fill thee with men, as with caterpillars; and they shall lift up a shout against thee.
America has become invaded by millions of foreigners (via illegal immigration)
39 In their heat I will make their feasts, and I will make them drunken, that they may rejoice, and sleep a perpetual sleep, and not wake, saith the Lord.
America has a summer national holiday – could this be the day of her ruin?
41 How is Sheshach taken! and how is the praise of the whole earth surprised! how is Babylon become an astonishment among the nations!
America is the nation that the others look up to. She was truly the beacon of liberty and progress for two centuries.
44 And I will punish Bel in Babylon, and I will bring forth out of his mouth that which he hath swallowed up: and the nations shall not flow together any more unto him: yea, the wall of Babylon shall fall.
America is where many immigrants flow to
53 Though Babylon should mount up to heaven, and though she should fortify the height of her strength, yet from me shall spoilers come unto her, saith the Lord.
America utilizes outer space for military might
Jeremiah 4
7 The lion is come up from his thicket, and the destroyer of the Gentiles is on his way; he is gone forth from his place to make thy land desolate; and thy cities shall be laid waste, without an inhabitant.
The leader of Babylon (who attacks Israel in this passage) is Gentile, male, and compared to a lion. He is not a traditional or nearby threat to Israel.
13 Behold, he shall come up as clouds, and his chariots shall be as a whirlwind: his horses are swifter than eagles. Woe unto us! for we are spoiled.
Use of military jets?
Jeremiah 6
22 Thus saith the Lord, Behold, a people cometh from the north country, and a great nation shall be raised from the sides of the earth.
Babylon is a great nation, from northern latitudes, and from the sides (ends) of the earth from Israel’s perspective.
23 They shall lay hold on bow and spear; they are cruel, and have no mercy; their voice roareth like the sea; and they ride upon horses, set in array as men for war against thee, O daughter of Zion.
Loud and swift, set in formation.
24 We have heard the fame thereof: our hands wax feeble: anguish hath taken hold of us, and pain, as of a woman in travail.

Isaiah 13
They come from a far country, from the end of heaven, even the LORD, and the weapons of his indignation, to destroy the whole land.
A nation far from Israel, possibly arriving through the air.
Isaiah 47
Come down, and sit in the dust, O virgin daughter of Babylon, sit on the ground: there is no throne, O daughter of the Chaldeans: for thou shalt no more be called tender and delicate.
Sit thou silent, and get thee into darkness, O daughter of the Chaldeans: for thou shalt no more be called, The lady of kingdoms.
Therefore hear now this, thou that art given to pleasures, that dwellest carelessly, that sayest in thine heart, I am, and none else beside me; I shall not sit as a widow, neither shall I know the loss of children:
Used to comfort, prosperity, and safety.
For thou hast trusted in thy wickedness: thou hast said, None seeth me. Thy wisdom and thy knowledge, it hath perverted thee; and thou hast said in thine heart, I am, and none else beside me.

Stand now with thine enchantments, and with the multitude of thy sorceries, wherein thou hast laboured from thy youth; if so be thou shalt be able to profit, if so be thou mayest prevail.

Thou art wearied in the multitude of thy counsels. Let now the astrologers, the stargazers, the monthly prognosticators, stand up, and save thee from these things that shall come upon thee.
Full of talking heads.
Other thoughts: As opposed to Rev 17, these OT passages speak of a “land,” being “of” and “among the nations,” and “cities” plural. The Babylon in Rev 17 is a singular city and is guilty of the blood of saints (a different cause of guilt than the Jeremiah passage).
However, Rev 18 may be speaking of the same entity as these passages in the OT. Like the Babylon in Rev 18, America ships in and consumes a massive amount of goods. Her demise would certainly send shockwaves through the world economy.
